Queen East is located in an emerging and attractive
area of the city, and proposes a residential condominium
with street related commercial use.
Previously considered to be a difficult to develop
site, because of its proportions and zoning, our
solution required no variances to the bylaw and
could be built under Part 9 of the building Code,
with its attendant ease.
Incorporating an exciting courtyard typology as
an alternative to the more typical and dark access
corridors, each of the 8 two story units enjoy access
to the exterior and to light and air from front
and back. The court also forms a shared community
space for the residents. Each of the dwellings has
lofts and double height spaces. The dwelling units
are individually expressed on the exterior. Large,
sheltered exterior spaces animate the façade
and create individual identity for the residents. |
